Low Budget Production
How to Spend Your Money Wisely When You Don’t Have Much
a SEMINAR on INDEPENDENT PRODUCTION
with Frederick Bailey
”The game has really changed, and it’s harder to get a foot in the door, anywhere. I think the wave of the future is to get a camera and some editing gear, and start shooting a movie.”
–Albert Hughes [director: Book of Eli, From Hell, Dead Presidents, Menace II Society]
Fred will be discussing the following points:
✪ This is not about how to raise money. It’s how to spend it wisely when you have limited resources.
✪ Working for Roger Corman: an education in low-budget production. Roger doesn’t waste anything. Vivid examples given.
✪ How Roger came to make Hour of the Assassin in Peru with producer/director Luis Llosa.
✪ Roger wastes nothing. But most important, Roger doesn’t waste time. If you got a job from him, he’d be making the movie 2 weeks later.
✪ Roger’s production philosophy.
✪ Apply that philosophy to yourself. Build your movie around stuff you already have, stuff you don’t have to pay for again or you don’t have to pay very much for. What that means is Planning Planning Planning.
✪ Use your brain. Look for shortcuts. Utilize your assets.
