THE 37th HONG KONG INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

It has finally been announced that the 37th Hong Kong International Film Festival will be held from 17th March to 2nd April 2013 at locations across Hong Kong. This is one of Asia’s top platforms for both filmmakers and film professionals to promote a better understanding of global cultures, and to discover new talents from around the world.

For anyone who is serious in entering the industry or just wants to learn more about global film trends then this is a “MUST GO” event. Last year, HKIFF screened over 280 titles from more than 50 countries in 11 major cultural venues across the territory. Participants can also attend seminars hosted by top international filmmakers, check out film exhibitions and mingle with other film enthusiasts, makers, and producers, over cocktails during the film galas and parties.

The remarkably successful director and veteran cinematographer Andrew Lau Wai- Keung will be holding a “Face to Face” seminar sharing his 30 years experience in the industry and incisive insights into Hong Kong cinema. He will also be discussing some of his hot hits including “City on Fire” (1987), “As Tears Go By” (1988), “Young and Dangerous” (1996), “The Stormriders” (1998), “Internal Affairs“(2002) – the original version of Martin Scorsese‘s Oscar-winning “The Departed“, “Initial D” (2005) and “The Guillotines” (2012).

I will be announcing this event to our students in class, as this is an exceptional opportunity for them to take part. Not only will they get to network with some substantial international film makers but they will also experience attending a film festival, and how everything runs. This surely would motivate them to work hard on their upcoming class term projects. And, hopefully one day they will be able to present their own productions at these events.
